Someone's In The Kitchen

It's me, I'm in the kitchen. While I wait for the Milk Paint to hit the shelves at my local supplier I am restless. Yesterday morning I made a trip to the airport, the grocery store, and Panera bread. I was back home with the groceries put away by 10:00. Boredom and gluttony teamed up on me and forced me to make this raspberry blackberry cobbler:

I've Been Working On The Railroad

     Railroad cabinet, that is.

Today I got a great surprise and the big honkin' railroad cabinet was delivered days early!
Here she is in the garage.
Inside one of the doors are lots of rows of holes which held some tools
This is the view behind some of the doors.

This is about the way I plan to sand her down - not to bare wood. I want to keep some of the paint underneath.

What's that? Something is peaking out at me.

I had told myself I would let the piece talk to me and tell me what color it wanted to be, but this was beyond my hopes!
It's going to be Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint - Tricycle Red!

Now I need to bring it inside, get it cleaned up some more, mount it on the wall for sensible safety reasons, and wait for Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint to debut in a couple of weeks!

Conrail Rail Road Cabinet

Conrail Railroad cabinet

I usually don't go near Craigslist. Today I was all over it, though, and found this nifty cabinet which used to travel on a railroad car with the welders who worked for the railroad. I think it went between (Syracuse?) New York and Dublin Ohio. It was laying down today and I can't wait to get pictures of it in my house standing up! It's a huge six feet by six feet, and it's amazing. I know you can't tell the size in this picture, but soon it will take over a prime spot in the house. I'm excited and I can't wait to show it to you! Delivery happens later this week.

I think this piece is a prime candidate for the milk paint line Miss Mustard Seed is debuting in a couple of weeks! The only question now is: What color?

Come On In

Ryan Homes Ravenna reverse floor plan entry hall

Welcome home! When I sit in my little blue chair in the front parlour this is my view of the front hall, which is kind of an extended vestibule. Well, except there's not a second door - yet. I plan to put some sliding barn doors in the house. Anyway, this church pew comes from Webbville, Kentucky - where my grandmother's grandfather built a church. The sewing machine is from my great-grandmother. It's a 1917 Singer. The giant hat is what I wear when I go out into the sun. I'm too fair skinned, and even a 10 minute walk of the doggage can land me in the bathroom burn unit.  I'm going to try out a few different things around the pew to see what works for me, but I'm happy with what's going on so far.

Dear Bloggers Using Rafflecopter

Hi. I love to enter giveaways. I love to win, and I love to see others win, too. I think it is okay to tweet, share on facebook, put your button on my blog, follow you on twitter and facebook and blogger. Subscribing to your blog via email is my preferred method to keep up with it.

But these rafflecopter giveaways where we can earn 40, 50, 75, 80, 100+ entries? They leave me feeling abused. I realize you want page loads, and to be able to say you had X number of entries into your giveaways, but really? It's too much. Sometimes there are 20+ people to follow on twitter and like on facebook, blogs to subscribe to via email, etc. Now it can take nearly 30 minutes to do all the entries for a blog giveaway.

Now, it's your blog, you can do whatever you want. I can decide to pass on entering. And I do. I just saw a blogger on facebook giving away 1 candle each to five different winners. The blogger was asking "Does no one want to enter for the giveaway?" There were over 200,000 entries on the rafflecopter widget. Really? That's no one?

I love the way rafflecopter made it easier to hold a giveaway and to enter them. I loathe what bloggers have done with it.

Fun, Fun, Fun!

It's been a busy time here at Chateau Velez.
We went to a Beach Boys concert.
We sanded down a tired old kitchen table
I got busy with Annie Sloan Chalk paint on the table legs.
We had visiting Texans

On the way to my grandparent's house I had to stop and enjoy this view.
When I arrived at my grandparent's house we sat on the porch. Another visiting Texan holds a baby as she tries to give a bib to my mom. (My mom is a messy eater)
We've been walking the dog.
And maybe howling at the moon.

Everyone took pictures. Lots and lots of pictures.
Jasmine grabbed a nectarine out of the fruit bowl

The doggie went in a box. Maybe he missed the littlest Texan?
On my son's birthday the kids watched a movie while my mom and I discovered gelato at the mall!

Then we went and played with a fluffy blurry puppy. She's a shih tzu.

She's so cute we brought her home as a companion for Tony Blair, who we knew would react with a big smile - just like this!

But mostly he looked like this about it.
Now they are pals. (Mostly)

The other day I took the two remaining Texans to the airport. After that I took myself to Big Boy and had a beautiful fish sandwich with fries. See also: hot fudge cake

Then I did some getting lost. It's okay, because I got to see these giant silos!

I waited in the cell phone lot at the airport for my husband to return from Germany. Not the whole time, of course. Just for a bit after taking the last two texans to the airport and eating at Big Boy.

It's been over 100 degrees a couple of days and pretty darn hot the rest of the days, too. Our yard had a final grade and got grass seed. I've eaten about 6 watermelons and countless quarts of berries. There has been lots of cobbler and trips to ice cream stands. The manager of the local Outback Steakhouse sold us a giant tub of Blue Bell ice cream at cost! (Big deal since we can't buy Blue Bell ice cream in Ohio!)  There's a little window into the summer so far. I have many things to paint, clean, and feed.  I hope you are enjoying your summer.
