The Things We Remember

One hot day in Austin, I was driving around with my four young children. At the time their ages were probably from two to seven. I had recently become an executive manager with Tupperware, which afforded my family the company car: A 1995 Dodge Caravan.  We were all thrilled to have a big brand new van to drive. The kids, who had been in attendance when it was presented to me, were still excited.

From the seat behind me I hear one of the pipsqueaks pipe up "Who loves mommy because she sells Tupperware!?!?!" and all of them answered, in chorus "I do! I do! Meeeee!" while all of their hands shot up into the air.

It's funny, the things we remember. This is one of my favorites.

Sugar As A Bonding Agent

I had overnight guests in the evolving guest room last night. They loved it! That's a really nice comfy bed in there, this I know. But the thing they said that made me smile was "We felt like you really understand us. It's the candy."

Hooray for me, I knew I had a winner when I put an assortment of candies in the guest room!

Overheard This Week

Me: I have fried chicken and mashed potatoes ready.

Punky Young Son: Is it for now or for dinner? (It was 4:30 pm)

Me: Yes, it's for dinner - now.

Punky Young Son: I was trying to nap.

Me: Sorry, Majesty.

Punky Young Son: I prefer Sir or Lord.

I politely declined his request. He still opted to partake of the chicken and potatoes.

Overheard This Week:

While at the mall, shopping for a dress to wear to graduation, Allison brings me a dress I find hideous.

Me: No.

Allison: Why not?

Me: I don't like it.

Allison: It's good!

Me: No.

Allison: Grunts then asks: What's wrong with it?

Me: It looks like I lost at paintball in it.

Allison: You don't even know what paintball is!
